The European Superstock 1000 Championship has also already started into their new season. The season 2017 kicked off in Aragon, Spain. I had planned to write a preview for this category as well but I was busy with some other things so unfortunately I wasn’t able to do it. However, the ones who I considered as favourites of the year really proved that my thoughts and guesses were right.
Michael Ruben Rinaldi with Ducati, Maximilian Scheib with Aprilia, Marco Faccani with BMW were in the front row of the starting grid.
Mike Jones with Ducati, Roberto Tamburini with Yamaha and Florian Marino with Yamaha started from the second row. Toprak Razgatlioglu with Kawasaki, Ilya Mykhalchyk with Kawasaki and Jérémy Guarnoni also with Kawasaki were on the row number three.
Rinaldi and Scheib was the two riders who had the best start and who were able to escape to their rivals a little bit. They had some nice battle but then Rinaldi started to push even more and escaped also from Scheib.
Scheib tried his best to get closer to the Italian but unfortunately he crashed.
There was very interesting fight for P3. It was a group of Marino, Jones, Razgatlioglu and also Tamburini was coming from behind. After Scheib’s crash it started to be the battle for P2.
Florian Marino was able to built some gap ahead of the others and settle himself down to the second position.
So it was between Razgatlioglu and Jones for P3. But Tamburini wasn’t very far from them.
Two laps to go Mike Jones made a mistake and ran wide. Meanwhile Roberto Tamburini got to Razgatlioglu and there was a battle for P3. Tamburini did overtake him but the Turkish rider didn’t want to give it up. But in the finish line he nearly had a highsider, he saved it but it was P4 for him.
Michal Ruben Rinaldi won the race ahead of Florian Marino and Roberto Tamburini. So Pata Yamaha had both their riders on the podium. For Marino it’s really great way how to be back in the racing after his serious injury.
Marco Faccani finished on the 5th place, Jérémy Guarnoni was 6th, Luca Vitali 7th, Ilya Mykhalchyk 8th, Mike Jones finished at least as P9 and Marvin Fritz completed top 10.
The other riders who scored some points were Wayne Tessels (11th), Luca Marconi (12th), Sébastien Suchet (13th), Julian Puffe (14th) and Andrea Tucci (15th).
You can see the full race results on the official website here.
As it was the first race of the season the World Championship is of course same as the race results. So Rinaldi has 25 points, Marino 20 points, Tamburini 16 points.
The second round of the STK1000 will take place in the Netherlands, in Assen from 28th to 30th April.
